MONTEREY MISTY
BRANDING DESIGN AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Overview:
Monterey Misty is a compelling brand identity for the Monterey fog, known as “Misty,” while also educating residents and tourists about its unique characteristics. I partnered with Christian Morris on this project where I took on the creation of misty, the brand, organizing the social media plan and creating half of the content. My partner Christian work on social media content and created the educational website. Through the creation of Misty’s brand identity and the development of educational website, and marketing materials, we seek to integrate the fog into the local identity and promote awareness of its cultural and environmental significance.
Problem:
The lack of awareness and understanding of the Monterey fog’s importance poses a challenge for promoting tourism and environmental stewardship in the region. Despite its integral role in shaping the local climate and ecosystem, Misty is often overlooked or misunderstood by both residents and visitors. This disconnect hinders efforts to showcase Misty as a unique and valuable asset of the Monterey Peninsula.

Solution:
Monterey Misty’s approach involves creating a strong brand identity that personifies the fog, similar to the successful “Karl the Fog” persona in San Francisco. By giving Misty a relatable and endearing character, the project aims to increase awareness
and engagement among residents and tourists. Through a combination of social media marketing, educational content, and community engagement initiatives, Misty will be positioned as a central element of Monterey’s identity, promoting tourism and environmental awareness.
